overnight

thought I'd stay with you overnight
everything I felt said it was alright
cool breeze drifting on the night
let me catch my breath

old battlefield

Battle over old scout territory
Everyone was satisfied with the victory over the old leader.
We polluted the area with the victory but not as bad as the first fight.

Battle over old scout territory
Unfortunately I didn't wake up with any details of the battle other than we won.

It was a victory over the old leader, whoever that was?

something, anything

another dream with a room full of people, we were, of course, once again, making decisions. what were we making decisions about I wish I could remember

the old Sony Vaio computer we have at home in the den slash office is driving us
crazy. I think it has to do with AOL software and AOL's attempt to force Sharon to upgrade from 5.0.
AOL is slow and it takes along time for the program to load. Sharon has a limited account since all she uses AOL for is email to talk to her friends.

I need a faster connection at home so that means buying or building another compter. The old Sony blue beast is only five years old but that's an eternity in a technological time frame. A cable modem internet connection is what I need to access this page's editing and posting functions.

I want to setup a commercial web site and doing that on a dialup modem is a a recipe for pure frustration. I mean I waited two years to get this Verizon DSL account at my office but Verizon DSL isn't available at my home, so cable it is.

I figure that I can take this computer home after I build a new one and access this computer from my office using a VPN. With my own private network over the internet I'll still have access to all the files on this computer. I plan to back up my busines files this way too. That way I will have a copy of my books at home as well as a copy at the office.

Off note, it's a beautiful September day, the leaves haven't turned though you can feel that fall is right around the corner. The mosquitos are almost gone just a few straglers here and there. Flocks of birds are flying over head in a southerly direction. I see more and more opposums, skunks and squirrels get flattened on the asphalt in their attempt to gather enough food for to sustain themselves through the cold winter months. The animals know the time is short before winter falls and the ground is hard.

writing practice part 1

just read Natalie Goldberg's book "Wild Mind" . Now i'm reading "Writing Down the Bones"
i can see how her energy has changed from Bones to Wild Mind
she evokes such great images brushed with her feelings
i feel like i can feel like she does when she says " just let go "
write don't worry about what your saying, just note what feelings come and write about them. like now, i am sitting in your basic black chinese office chair with plastic wheels the don't fare all that well on carpet, typing on the keyboard of a blue 98 Sony VAIO computer filling up the time required for writing practice.
i'm doing ten minutes or more i'm not sure exactly since i chose not to time myself but write i do. just continue with what comes up stay in present
it was a good day i worked in the afternoon, it was one of those days when interacting with the staff at my restaurant goes well.

setting up movable type on my hosting service was a great idea
i walked right into this wriiting practice thing borrowed Natalie's books from the library just about the same time i ran into the website wild-mind.net
almost like i timed the whole thing. now i see what she means that we have help when we let go and just be ourselves. write any thing that comes up is okay.
it doen't have to be good, be as present as you can. the thoughts are going to come no matter what we do. the trick is to look between the thoughts, that's inspiration

Las Vegas

I'm having a hard time spending a thousand dollars for a three day trip to Las Vegas. I haven't had a vacation since January 2001.
Clicking the book it now button is where I get hung up. Sticker shock, I guess, after having lived in California. When we lived in San Jose a three day excursion to Las Vegas was about three hundred dollars which included the airfare and a small deluxe room.
Now I live in Massachusetts and the same three day trip to Las Vegas is a $1000 dollars.

Ah shut up, quit bitching and buy the tickets, it's not like I don't have the money.

Fragmented dreams

Guess I need to write my dreams down right away. I wake up, kick the cat off the bed, throw the covers back, my feet hit the floor chanting amitabha and I walk down the long narrow hallway to the little bathroom and relieve myself.

As I'm standing in front of the toilet I'm searching my mind for any reminents of the dreams I had last night.

I finished getting dressed telling myself that I'll remember the dream fragments I'm holding in my head, hoping they will stay there until I can get them on this page.
But alas they're gone

Cookout (digeree do)

Went over to my sister Deb's house this evening. It was the end of summer get together. The whole family was there except my brother Tom.
Deb had a canopy setup next to the trailer in the backyard. Danny, Deb's husband, was cooking burgers and BBQ chicken legs on the propane grill. Mom brought some
pumpkin bread.
Everyone was there to see my brother Kevin, the artiste who lives in Hawaii, before he leaves to go back to his home in Hawaii.

After eating our BBQ dinner the sun had set and it was getting cool so Deb started a fire in an empty old metal barrel that was sliced in half. The half barrel fire provided warmth with the flames dancing in the darkness.

After everyone was finished roasting marshmallows over the open fire my cousin Donna's husband, Don, decided to read some scary stories. Don, turned out to be a great reader, he was easy to hear and he read without stumbling over the words. His choice of stories was good but the stories he chose weren't all that scary but it was fun listening to him read. Everyone else liked his reading too and gave him a big round of applause when he was finished.

I even got to use one of my favorite words while talking to my brother Tim, digeree do. Not only do I like the word I love the way digeree do's sound.

It's funny, I was distracted this morning before I had a chance write about the dream I had last night. What I realize now is that the dream was about the cookout.

Cookout

My sister Deb called this morning inviting Sharon, my girlfriend, and I to a backyard cookout at her house this evening.

Deb said David was back in the US. His ship, the USNS Gordon, had docked in Savannah, Georgia on Saturday.
David is mad that I published the press release about Leon's death and that I had mentioned him by name in the article.

I got a little animated during my conversation with Deb about the press release.
The company her son David works for called me and told me that the information in my press release was inaccurate but they didn't tell what the true facts were if that was in fact the case. Even David says the press release I created is wrong but he has made no effort to contact me with the truth in this matter.

A Stir

I've created quite a stir with the news release I posted about the death of Leon Longburg.
Leon was a merchant seaman stationed aboard the USNS Gordon off the island of Crete in the Mediterranean Sea.
Perhaps, as my nephew David says, I should have minded my own business but what does one do when they hear that a family member is being held for questioning in the death of an American in a foreign country.

The Greek civil penalties for anyone involved in the death of an individual are quite severe by American standards so I thought a news release was warranted. I felt that a press release might spur a curious overseas reporter to pick up the story and help to bring a few more details of the investigation to light.

So far no information has been released to the public about Leon's death.
Neither The Department of the Navy or the Patriot Contract Services have made any information about Leon's death publicly available at this time.

Leon's father, John, who is also a merchant seaman, wants to know how his son died and why. Mr. Longburg said he had spoken to the Captain of the USNS Gordon but that Captain couldn't explain how Leon had died.

Mr Longburg told me that all he knew about Leon's death was that Leon's body was found floating in the Mediterranean Sea, near shore, off the island of Crete. Leon's body was found with all his personal possessions, wallet, backpack untouched. So it appears that robbery was not the motive for Leon's death.

All we know so far is that my nephew David was the last person to see Leon.
Leon was on the pier(dock) waiting for the ship's launch to return to the Gordon.

Notice

Forgot to mention that Katie called Saturday evening to tell me that she had injured herself while playing soccer Saturday afternoon so she won't be able to work.

So much for the two week notice Katie gave me Friday night. I was lost for a minute after that phone call but then I came to my senses. I have been dodging employee problems for the last five months. Just when I think that I'll be short staffed a solution shows itself.

After Angie called in sick Saturday morning I figured it might be a good idea to hire another waitress so I called Jennifer to see if she was still looking for work. Jennifer had applied for a waitress job two weeks ago the day after I hired Angie.
I didn't get an answer at Jennifer's so I left a message for her to call me back if she was still looking for work.

About two hours later Jennifer called me back saying she is available to work.
I told Jen to come in Wednesday morning at 11 am, she said she would be there.
I'm going to find out right away if she's ready for prime time or not. I have to put her on Friday to replace Katie. Friday is the busiest day of the week so we'll have a trial by fire.
Actually I hope she's up to challenge, we need a steady Friday night waitress..

Time will tell.

Indent

One single space indentation before index.html file name created several hours of havoc and consternation getting my installation of Movable Type up and running properly. Boy, am I glad that I figured that out.

For awhile I was ready to give up all hope that I would get Movable Type working.
Persistance pays off again.

As it's said the devil is in the details. I love computers but misplace or leave out one character of code while programming or configuring a file can cause the programmer hours of confusion.

Half empty, dream

In the dream my friend and I were looking at two dinner plates. One plate had the small round Chinese bay scallops(fried) with coleslaw and thick crinkle cut french frys. The other plate consisted of small pinkish colored shrimp, commonly call popcorn shrimp, also with frys and slaw.

Each plate's portion appeared to about half of what would be considered a full dinner portion.

My friend, or was it a co-worker, looked at each of the plates and decided they were half empty.

Seems in all my dreams lately I'm in a room full of people.

Taa Dah

My first MT blog. Only took me 36 hours to figure out what I was doing wrong. It's always a good idea to edit the code in the proper file.
For several hours last night I couldn't tell where to put the CGI Path info. Considering I was editing the mt.cgi file when I should have been editing the mt.cfg file it's no small wonder that it wasn't obvious where to put the CGIPath.

Onwards and upwards. Now I want to change the style template and make MT my own.

"I'll be back!"
