New PC

Took me from 9pm till 3am to build my new computer,
load Windows and hook up to a cable modem.
What a difference! Dial up was just too slow,
plus the 98 Sony Vaio computer that I replaced with the new one
was slow, tired and running out of disc space,
it only had a 6 gigabyte hard drive.

The new computer has:
Intel 2.6 Gig P4 processor
Abit IC-7 Max 3 motherboard
512 MB PC 3200 Corsair memory
80 Gig Western Digital hard drive
46x Lite-On CD/DVD CDRW drive
a black Enermax case with lights on the front, woo hoo,
looks great and it has a LCD temperature display on the front,
Radeon 9600 Pro video card with TV tuner, HDTV on my computer.

I love it, speed and style!

Knoppix

Ever get frustrated with Windows? Feel like trying a different OS, operating system?
Or have you heard all the buzz surrounding the Linux operating system but were afraid to try something new?

Well, the ultimate try it out first situation has come about. Enter Knoppix from Germany. A Linux distro, version, that will run on your Windows PC from your CDrom drive. No installation hassles, just download the file from the Knoppix web site and burn an image of the file to CD, pop in your CD rom drive, select restart and you will boot straight into Linux.
No fuss, no muss. The easy way to try out Linux on your PC without changing a thing to your current installation of Windows.
Knoppix creates a ramdrive, free space in memory and on your hard drive so it will run on your PC without actually having to install it..
Very nice.
I'm still a little lost since the world of Linux is new to me but it is a refreshing change from my usual Windows based computing environment.

Once Knoppix detects your hardware you are presented with an elegant desktop with the little Linux penguin on the top left corner of your Knoppix desktop.
There's a full compliment of software on the Knoppix CD available to use in the Knoppix desktop. A task bar, just like Windows, holds a start menu with all the software available for use on the Knoppix CD.

If you've ever thought about trying Linux but afraid to install it on your PC this is perfect. No excuses, try it out.
The only real draw back it the huge download,700 MB file, that contains the ISO image that you have to burn to CD. Once you have the 700MB Knoppix ISO file downloaded on your PC use your everyday CD burning software to burn an image file to CD. When you've finished burning the Knoppix ISO image to CD close down Windows put your new Knoppix CD in the cd drive and reboot.

Questions? Leave a comment and I'll get back to you.

Web Design

Study, study, study I am.
Zeldman's web site has a wealth of web design resources for those interested. From Zeldman's site you can end up at any number of other talented web designers who freely display their code and hacks for all to see.
There's so many aspects of design, javascript, css, dom, php, just to mention a few, that can be implemented in your web page that it's almost overwhelming.

And if that's not enough, I want to install FreeBSD on my computer so I can dual boot.

Hope I haven't bitten off more that I can chew......

Update: I decided not to install FreeBSD. I just freed up more time, what a relief. So I've decided to build a new PC for home use instead.

Still working on learning xhtml though.

Vista Gold

I spent several hours Sunday night looking for a good stocks
to trade short term. So what do I do ? I buy some Vista Gold (VGZ)
a stock that's not on the list below. Go figure.... just felt right.

The market is extended and due for a pull pack plus the gold ETF shares
(exchange traded fund), will start trading in December.
So the long and short of todays trade tells me that I feel more comfortable
being long gold.

NaNoWriMo

Four days into the National Novel Writing Month and I have written a grand total of 2200 words, unbelieveable.
That's more than I use to write in a whole month perhaps even two months.

I'm off to a good start, now all I have to do to complete the competition is write 47,800 more words to my novel before November 30th 2003.

Wish me luck, K?
